1. Add a player to your squad

A squad is your team (for example "Under 10s"). Adding a player to your squad is how they show up in your roster, your guardian emails, and your registration list.

The easy way — from your squad

  1. In the left menu, go to Club Management → Squads.
  2. Click your squad's name.
  3. Scroll down to Eligible Players, below your current roster. It lists everyone whose date of birth and gender fit your squad but who isn't in it yet.
  4. Click Add next to the player you want.
  5. The player appears in your roster straight away.

Two filters sit above that list if it's long: the Male / Female / Both links, and a Only show players not in another squad tick-box for finding the children nobody has picked up yet. Tick it and click Filter.

You can add any player already in the club's system, even if they were in a different squad before — adding them here doesn't remove them from anywhere they still belong.

To remove a player from your squad, click the Remove button next to their name in the same list. (This only takes them out of your squad; it never deletes the player.)

The other way — from the player's page

  1. Go to Players → All Players and click the player's name.
  2. Find the Squads card.
  3. Choose your squad from the drop-down and click Add to squad.

This route only opens players who are already in one of your squads, so it's handy for moving a player you already manage — but for pulling in a new player, use "the easy way" above.

If the player isn't in the system at all

If you can't find a player anywhere in the Eligible Players list, they haven't been added to the website yet. New players normally appear on their own after the club imports the latest FA player report — but when a child turns up to train before that happens, you can add them yourself.

Check they're not already on file first. Search Players → All Players for their surname before adding — if they've played for another squad they'll already be there, and adding them again makes a duplicate record someone has to merge later.

  1. Go to Players → Add Player.
  2. Fill in their first name(s), surname and date of birth. Those three are required; the date of birth especially, because it's how the club's next FA import recognises this child as the one you added and fills in their real FAN ID instead of creating a second record for them.
  3. Check the Squad drop-down. If you run one squad it's already set to it, and the player joins it the moment you save. If you run more than one, pick the right one — or choose — No squad — if you're only recording the child for now.
  4. Add anything else you know — gender, age group, emergency contact — and click Add Player. Leave FAN ID blank if they aren't registered with the FA yet.

You land on the new player's page, with the squad already showing in the Squads card. If you left the drop-down on — No squad —, that card is where you add them later: pick your squad and click Add to squad. Until you do, they're on the club's system but not in your team, so they won't show in your roster or your guardian emails.

A girls squad only takes players recorded as Female. Pick one for a player whose gender says otherwise and the form tells you so and saves nothing — correct the gender, or save them without a squad and ask your club admin.

If you saved without a squad and get a message saying the player was saved but their date of birth and gender don't match any of your squads, the record is safely on the system — it's just not one you can open, because it isn't a child for your team. Check the date of birth you typed, and ask your club admin if it was right.

Guardian names and email addresses can't be added from this screen. Send those to your club admin once the player is in, so the parents get your emails and the season sign-up link (Sections 3 and 4).
